Meet Director: Alex Thomas

The Saturday event at Bear Creek Lake Park was a fine opening to our 2001 non skiing season. The sun shone brightly even if it was a little (very) cold when I arrived at 8:30.

There was a good turnout of 34 competitors many of whom were totally or at least reasonably new to orienteering. We hope that everybody will continue to come to events.

Congratulations to Neal Barlow who entered the Red, Green and Orange Courses, coming 1st in two of them (by a large margin) and second in the other.

With the results for the next event will come your club ranking, although it will not become official until you have completed at least 5 events in a single color.

Thanks to Alex Thomas who organised the Bear Creek Lake Park event yesterday. He was a superbly well organised Meet Director so everything went smoothly with everyone finding the location in the park easily.

Chris (Spriggs) set good courses challenging for the white, yellow and orange - hard to make the others very challenging. Everyone appeared to really enjoy themsleves and, because the weather in the afternoon was so glorious, most stayed to chat for quite some time and probably got burnt like Chris and I did. The morning started freezing (?!) cold and not sure whether to snow or rain hence no sun-screen or hats - big mistake.

Anyway, thanks to Alex and Chris and others who lent a hand on the day. There were about 30 competitors - Alex will post the results with final numbers soon.
