Course Setter and Meet Director: Bob McBride

I was thinking about writing a poem, "When there were still waters in Manitou Lake, " but can't seem to get past the first line. Since there isn't any water it's hard to get motivated. It's risky to redirect people around the lake into the Manitou Experimental Forest when all of our directions point to the picnic grounds. So, I put out signs this year. As nearly as I can tell, 45 people managed to find the meet, which was held in the USDA National Forest preserve on the East side of Lake Manitou. It sure looked like a lot of them enjoyed their day in the forest.

Louise Segreto and I were ready long before the advertised start time. She managed the registration all day. Neal Barlow came early, pre-ran the red course and settled in to be the starter and finish timer. His work is very much appreciated. Several people came early and completed as many as 3 courses before retiring for the day. Nothing warms the heart of an orienteering meet director/course setter than people who enjoy their day, their courses, and their friends in an orienteering event. This was one of those heart-warming crowds. Then, as things were winding down, Terry Farrah, Doug Berling, Jan Ingebrigtsen, Brooke Mann, and Dan Snow picked up the controls. That, too, is very much appreciated.
