This was the eighth-annual Ski-O and first ever Snowshoe-O event at the Frisco Nordic Center. The snowshoe component was added single-handedly by Adam Feerst.

Thank Heavens for the snow we received in October and November which gave us a good base. January was the warmest in many years. Saturday morning it was 34 degrees at 7:00am and it topped out sunny and 47 degrees.

Pre-printed color maps were enjoyed by all. Instead of giving out control descriptions, the code was printed on the map next to the control number and circle. All ski controls were on groomed ski trails, though many chose to pioneer new routes through the soft, deep powder.

Many thanks to Betty and George Bramhall for handling registration again, Mil the start and finish, Margareta Lambert for giving beginner instruction, and Sharon Crawford for planning such challenging ski-o courses. Thanks to Adam Feerst, two snowshoe orienteering courses were prepared and were a great hit. Thanks to Redfeather for providing free loaner snowshoes. A lot of people did both ski-O and snowshoe-O on the sunny and pleasant day. Many gathered later to enjoy a supper at the Plant's house.

A sad footnote: As Adam went out early Saturday morning to hang the snow shoe controls, he heard of the loss of the Columbia space shuttle. Shocking news -- but the O-meet went on.
