Chatfield State Park
October 15th, 2005

It was a gloriously beautiful autumn day with enough wind to keep the bugs at bay and keep us cool. It was so nice that we all felt a little cheated that this would be our last event of 2005.

We had a big turnout and quickly ran out of sprint/orange maps. I totally misjudged how many pre-printed maps would be needed comparing the turnout last year. I expected that all experienced orienteerers would do the memory courses and not need maps, but they ran the sprint/orange so late-comers had to copy their courses on top of the white/yellow. Rather messy, so I am sorry about that. Next time I’ll bring my all-in-one printer for such emergencies.

Only Dan Nielsen, Mark Hendrickson and JP Ingebrigtsen ran just the memory courses, the others who tried a memory loop ran the sprint first. James Scarborough gave autographs (he’s on the US Team) and showed us why with a speedy time on the sprint. Unfortunately I couldn’t nag him into trying a memory loop.

I hope to see many of you at our annual meeting!
