Jim Plant of Frisco died Tuesday afternoon. He was 82 years old. Jim lived a long, full, active life — the last 20 years in Summit County where he and his wife, Millicent, were active with the Summit Seniors and the Over-the-Hill Gang. Jim was also one of the original Buzzards. He loved their Friday breakfasts at the Butterhorn where he was known for his sparkling blue eyes and mischievous smile. Millicent and Jim were married for 53 years.

Jim was born in Topeka Kan., in 1927 and, following a stint in the Navy, worked for Western Electric for 32 years before retiring in 1984.

Jim went to school at CU, graduating in 1951. He was one of the first patrollers at the newly established Arapahoe Basin in the '40s. It was through a ski club that he met Millicent. Together they skied, canoed, hiked and camped all over the United States. They bicycled and orienteered all over the world. In the 1960s, Jim hiked the Himalayas, in the '70s he led bike tours on the East Coast, in the '80s he competed internationally in orienteering, and in the '90s he traveled to Antartica with Mil. Jim spent four years as the national orienteering champion.

Jim's motto was "work to live, don't live to work." He did that well. Jim is survived by his wife, Millicent of Frisco, daughters Betsy of Golden and Barbara of Steamboat Springs, son Tom of Nederland as well as five grandchildren.

Millicent Plant age 91, of Clark, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2016, with all of her family nearby. Mil graduated from UC Berkeley. She greeted everyone she met with her sparkling eyes and warm spirit and was a valued community volunteer wherever she lived. Mil and Jim plant spent 20 years in Summit County together. She loved the outdoors and was an avid reader and knitter. Mil Leaves her three children, Barb Lynn of Clark, Colorado; Betsy Morin of Golden; and Tom Plant of Nederland; along with four grandchildren. Mil is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Plant, and one grandson. Her life was made richer by her special friends in Summit and Routt counties. The family held a memorial gathering at her home in Frisco, Colorado, July 30, 2016.
