RMOC members kicked butt at a recent adventure race. Carol Johnson sent in details and photos for this race report:
RMOC members had an outstanding showing in the recent "Rock2Rock" Adventure Race in Colorado Springs. Ryan Ognibene and Bryan Caylor finished first and second overall, as solo competitors. Ken Lotze was fifth overall solo male (one team and one female finished ahead of him).
Other RMOC members who completed the six-hour course from Monument to Colorado Springs included Deborah Doyle (2nd place solo female), Nick Patzer (1st place 3-person coed), Katie Ferrington (1st place 2-person coed), and Heidi Simon.
The race started with a "fun event" of shooting hockey goals and a lateral wall climb, then multiple bike legs, UTM-plotting and navigation course, ropes (choice of rappel or zip-line), traditional orienteering course, bike-O, and, at the finish, an ascent up the wall in a climbing gym.
One of the competitors reports that Ryan "decimated" the competition with his ultra-speedy finish -- 4:39:00 on what was designed as a six-hour course. (Bryan and Ken also finished under the six-hour mark.) Ryan stuck around afterwards and helped other racers at the finish (it was a little confusing where to go and what to do once you entered the rock climbing gym), which was a nice display of sportsmanship.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR RMOC SUPER-STARS!
