Course Setter's Notes from Michael Rounds:

Welcome to Tahosa, with some of the most unique terrain in Colorado. Parts of this map are the typical ridge and reentrant found on most of the RMOC maps. But Tahosa also includes glaciated terrain more often found in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Due to the forest service permits issued before Tahosa was added to the schedule, we can only use about half of what Yves has mapped, so only the advanced courses (Brown, Green, and Red) will have a chance to experience this mind boggling terrain.

The part of the map we are using is the Boy Scout property and a few other private property parcels we have secured permission to use. Please take care to be a good neighbor so we can continue to use this private property. We hope to be able to include the Forest Service land in our next permit application to expand our use of this area.

The northwest quarter of this map suffered a forest fire back in 1988, some areas are rough open, and others have 8'-10' evergreens providing very limited visibility. The southwest portion of the map is the glaciated area, with lots of natural depressions, ponds, and marsh areas. The camp itself has a very extensive trail network and is mostly enclosed by fencing.

  • Beginner Instruction: Basic Beginner Instruction will take place at 1:00 pm in the vicinity of the Registration table. When you check in, let a volunteer know that you would like Beginner Instruction.
