  • Courses:

This meet will offer Intermediate and Advanced courses. You can find an explanation of the orienteering course color scheme at our FAQs page.

    • Beginners. Due to the nature of the Manitou map and terrain, this meet will not offer a true beginner course (White / Yellow). However, for more confident beginners, the Orange (intermediate) course can be completed by using fences, vegetation, and a compass for navigation.

    • Advanced. The Red, Green and/or Brown advanced courses can be combined to make a longer day; some controls are shared but all legs are different. Pre-register for each course separately.

  • Map Notes from Odd:

We'll be on a new map based on USGS Lidar data from 2016. The map has 2.5-meter contours to avoid the excessive use of form lines and otherwise follow the current IOF mapping standard.

The lack of handrails makes it challenging to create beginner courses, however we'll offer an 2.8 km Orange (intermediate) course that can be done by using fences, vegetation and a compass.

The terrain still has mostly open forest and meadows with good runnability and visibility but with more young pines in some areas. The steeper eastern part of the map has some denser brush that can reduce running speed. Due to excellent visibility in the forest most controls on the advanced courses are in reentrants.

Please use caution when crossing the barbed wire fences. The openings in the fences are marked on the map and if there is a gate, remember to close it if you open it. Course symbol 'crossing point' is used where the fence is easier to get over or under. One tip is to use your map & map case to protect against the barbs.

Minor streams have been dry for many years so there is no visible water or water course but they always indicate the low spot of the terrain.

Most paths and rides have not been used over the last years and are growing in and can be hard to see. They are still on the map but can be hard to identify when crossing them in the terrain.

Staging/download will be in the same spot as the last years. The walk from from the staging area to start will be 500 m, marked with streamers.
